2016 Production Fund Updates
Last year we funded 18 young reporters to tell important and original stories from the developing world through interactive & immersive multimedia, online and print articles, film and radio documentaries.
They travelled to 16 different countries, telling stories of refugee entrepreneurs in Uganda, blind photographers in Mexico, child marriage in Mozambique and much more.
The resulting content has been picked up in many outlets including the BBC, VICE, the Guardian and The Atlantic. A selection of films were screened at Bertha DocHouse in February and May this year, and at film festivals in the UK.
Here are some highlights of our 2016 grantees achievements:
Olivia Crellin’s film about transgender parents in Ecuador was broadcast on BBC Our World. The festival cut, funded by OWM will be screened on 28 June at the Frontline Club
Nicola Kelly’s radio piece, Nubian’s of the Nile, was broadcast on BBC Heart & Soul
Simisola Jolaoso’s film on South African Forensic Nurses fighting sex crimes was shortlisted for the OWM Student Award
Tristan Martin’s documentary co-produced with Thomson Reuters Foundation, has recently been included in ‘Trust Docs’ on Link TV, and was picked up by The Atlantic
Alice McCool was listed as one of the March 2017 VICE Employees of the Month for her article on the legalisation of hemp in Malawi. Read her OWM funded work in VICE Magazine
