The Special Award is given to an independent media organisation based in a developing country using media to address social, cultural, political and economic issues.
The Award seeks to recognise and encourage outstanding reporting that informs the public, provides an outlet for local people’s voices, creates a space for critical information and holds those in power to account.
The winning organisation will also receive round-trip airfare to London and accommodation for one representative to attend the One World Media Awards ceremony in June 2019.
Eligibility
Radio or television broadcasters, production companies, print publications and websites are eligible to enter. Individuals will not be considered.
The jury will give greater consideration to organisations with a wide reach and impact, but will also take into account the size and available resources of the organisation. The organisation must be financially sustainable and, where applicable, show lasting impact and/or how it has affected public opinion or government policy.
There is no entry fee for the Special Award.
How to Enter
In order to enter the Special Award category, you will need letters of reference from two independent referees – these can include people or companies/organisations that you have worked with/for and who know your organisation and its work.
