Filmmaker Spotlight – Saila Huusko

Our filmmaker spotlight this week is documentary filmmaker and journalist, Saila Huusko!

Saila’s work has appeared in The Guardian, Al Jazeera and Global Post, as well as numerous international film festivals. She has also worked in conflict and post-conflict areas as an in-house filmmaker for the Crisis Management Initiative (CMI) office.

Saila was selected to participate in Global Short Docs Forum 2018, where she was able to pitch her short documentary, Float, to a number of digital platforms. She secured commissioning for her film from the BBC, and it will be released in Spring 2019.

“The best part for me was the chance to practice pitching my film multiple times. The experience of actually pitching to platforms on the last day was also incredible! I have much more confidence in myself and my project as a result” – Saila Huusko at GSDF 2018

Her first feature documentary ‘Moroni For President’ has also been touring the international film circuit, and has recently been released on PBS in the US.
