The Rise of Women Journalists in the Arab World

The Rise of Women Journalists in the Arab World

In March 2016, we hosted an event on the rise of women journalists in the Arab world, held at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and moderated by Channel 4’s International Editor Lindsey Hilsum. The talk coincided with the launch of the Marie Colvin Journalists’ Circle (MCJC) – which mentors and supports a new generation of female journalists in the Arab world.

Lindsey Hilsum talked to women reporters with roots in the Arab world and asked how women are changing the face of war reporting. What are the changing demands of conflict coverage? Is the terrain tougher the closer you are to home? She was joined by the BBC’s Yalda Hakim; journalist and academic Dr Zahera Harb of City University London; Saudi journalist Safa Al Ahmad and Mina Al Oraibi, Yale World Fellow and former Assistant Editor-in-Chief of Asharq Alawsat.
