As we count down to the One World Media Awards 2019 it occurred to us that our longlisted entries present an excellent set of playlists to catch up on the past year of underreported stories. This week’s playlist comes from our Popular Features longlist.

Here we’ve selected media that reaches a wider audience. You might be less familiar with what’s happening in developing countries, but you will certainly be better informed once you’ve looked beyond these headlines.

From National Geographic to Teen Vogue, you’ll find stories that have a creative and accessible approach to some of the the most pressing stories of the past year. Whether it’s an octopus in Tanzania or papier-mache in Mexico, they know how to hook you into the story.

The final winners will be presented at the awards ceremony held at BAFTA on June 17.
